Audio editing doesn't need expensive programmes. A short radio play or a new audio track for a self-made video can be easily created with the free multi-track editor Audacity.
The first part provides help with installing and setting up Audacity.

"The Red Duchess" - Reading and discussion with the Ukrainian writer Svetlana Lavochkina and the translator Diana Feuerbach.
Moderated by Bettina Baltschev
Zaporozhye in Ukraine at the end of the 1920s: Stalin wants to build the Dnieper dam, the centrepiece and prestige object of Soviet industrialisation. Svetlana Lavochkina writes a grotesque parable about megalomania and contempt for humanity, an eloquent and sensual portrait of Ukraine at the time of the Red Terror.
Svetlana Lavochkina is an author and translator. Born and raised in eastern Ukraine, she now lives with her family in Leipzig, where she works as a teacher. Lavochkina writes in English and her texts have been published in numerous magazines and anthologies in the USA and the UK. In 2013, her novella "Dam Duchess" was honoured with the Paris Prize for Literature.
Diana Feuerbach was born in Stollberg in the Ore Mountains and grew up in Karl-Marx-Stadt. She is an author and translator and lives in Leipzig. A graduate of the German Literature Institute, she has travelled to Ukraine and Russia several times and has written about the post-Soviet world in her own texts.
Bettina Baltschev is an author, literary critic and editor at MDR Kultur as well as managing director of the Saxon Literature Council.

For a long time, we in the West believed that Poland was free and democratic, a young European country in start-up mode. Then the majority voted right-wing conservative, followed by news of the press being brought into line, the disempowerment of the courts - and our image was shattered.
For Emilia Smechowski, Poland is home - a home that she left as a child and to which she now returns with her daughter to live as a citizen of the country. She describes a nation torn apart: the rift runs through families, it is present when people argue about politics or remain silent at Sunday dinner. Smechowski tells of everyday life full of contradictions, she talks to politicians and farmers, she travels to cities and remote areas in order to understand: What has happened since 1989 that so many people no longer believe in the value of freedom?

Highly amusing and original, "The Undogmatic Dog" tells the story of a marvellous ménage-à-trois and introduces us to the most famous dogs in world literature. You will never forget Stubbs again, that much is promised.

At the invitation of the Chair of Modern German and Comparative Literature at Chemnitz University of Technology, the multi-award-winning author Uwe and his biographer and long-time editor Martin Hielscher will be guests as part of the "Literature and Knowledge" series of events. Their joint discussion will centre on the post-colonial novel "Morenga", which was first published in 1978 and is more topical than ever today, and the recently published volume of essays "Der Verrückte in den Dünen - Über Utopie und Literatur".

"3D printing" - a constructive manufacturing process - is a buzzword on everyone's lips and is a topic that not only inspires industry, but also the centre of our society.
3D printers are more than just simple CNC machines. Behind them lies an incredibly large cosmos: whether developments, experiments, repair culture, the open source scene or the maker movement.
The workshop is designed to give anyone interested a brief insight into this world. In the two hours, an overview of current technologies will be given, which will be illustrated using many interesting examples and an active 3D printer.

August 1961: Captain Max Heller of the Dresden criminal investigation department has been transferred to internal service by his new superior. An affront for Heller, who is about to retire. When one day he receives a parcel containing evidence from a long-solved murder case, he is alarmed. It soon becomes clear that the real perpetrator from back then is back and challenges Heller to a perfidious fight for life and death. A breathless hunt for the murderer begins, putting Heller's family in grave danger. The political situation in the GDR is also coming to a head. Almost unnoticed by the world, preparations are made for the construction of the Berlin Wall. On 10 August 1961, Karin and Max Heller have to make a dramatic decision: leave or stay.

They were friends as students. However, one of them went to the West and the circumstances of the Cold War sealed their separation. They worked in the same professional field, but their work could not have been more different in two hostile Germanys. Will they find each other again in the now united country? Can they meet as equals? Excitement is the order of the day!
In "Fire and Water", former Chemnitz teacher and headmaster Harald Linke recounts the life of his alter ego Willi Funke in tense contrast to his former fellow student, who leaves the GDR at the end of the 1950s.

Experiences of a Nicaraguan in the GDR and other stories
Joint reading by the Free German Authors' Association with Carlos Ampié Loría, Hannelore Crostewitz and Anne Meinecke

Carlos Ampié Loría, born in Nicaragua in 1961, came to the GDR on a scholarship in 1984. During his years of training and study, he experienced the country from different perspectives. In the manuscript "Fremd bin ich und ich bin es gern", the author recounts his experiences as an apprentice, construction worker, student and foreign citizen in the GDR in the 1980s. It is the view of a stranger who captured funny, romantic, sad, joyful and less joyful scenes. They are bursting with humour, tragicomic situations and youthful boldness and freshness.
Leipzig authors Hannelore Crostewitz and Anne Meinecke will also be reading stories from the anthology "Land above and land below - everyday life in the GDR".

Over the course of several hours, you will try out a playful approach to rhymes, language and rhythm and learn how to memorise your own texts with ease, present them individually and personally and finally perform them at a microphone. Maybe even for the public spoken word performance on 7 May, 7 pm at TIETZ.
Workshop leader Jessy James LaFleur was born in East Belgium and has been performing on stages around the world as a rapper and spoken word artist for over 20 years and founded the "ANGEPRANGERT! SPOKEN WORD" INITIATIVE.

Lieschen Radieschen always got a red head, but always. Nothing could be done. Nobody could deal with her. Not even Aunt Evelyn, and she was a nursery school teacher when she was younger: "The lammergeier gets angry children like that, Lieschen!" - "Pah! No lammergeier will get me, I'll get him!" screamed Lieschen and ran off. So the self-confident girl chases all the robbers in the land, tangles with a dragon and frees the prince. Marie Bretschneider tells and plays the story in an open-ended way, excitingly, humorously and with great attention to detail. For everyone aged 4 and over.
