Stefan Heym, who was born Helmut Flieg in Chemnitz on 10 April 1913, spent his childhood with his family on the Kaßberg. Because of his anti-militaristic poem "Export Business", the senior pupil had to leave the grammar school in his home town.
The tour traces his daily life in Chemnitz.

Concert reading with Liv Heym

Stefan Heym's autobiography and the music of his time are the focus of a concert reading "Stefan Heym's childhood and youth and his path to emigration" with his granddaughter Liv Heym in Chemnitz. On the eve of the award ceremony for the International Stefan Heym Prize of the City of Chemnitz for Literature and Journalism, the violinist will explore the relevance of Heym's biography for our understanding of ourselves and our times. She will be guided primarily by Stefan Heym's 1988 autobiography "Nachruf" (Obituary) and will be accompanied by the singer and pianist Donia Berriri (Paris).

The film "Farewell and Arrival" documents the preparations for the transfer of the library from Heym's study in Berlin-Grünau to the Stefan Heym Forum. Supplemented by numerous archive recordings from contemporary appearances and interviews, the director has succeeded in creating a sensitive double portrait.

Prof Dr Andreas Lehnardt: Hebrew and Aramaic binding fragments in German archives, libraries and collections - lecture

Andreas Lehnardt reports on the discovery of a Hebrew manuscript fragment on parchment from the 13th century in the Dresden City Archives in 2024. It is a copy of a commentary by the Jewish scholar Menahem Ben Shlomo on the Exodus of the people of Israel from Egypt. The lecture will shed light on the mysteries surrounding this important testimony to Jewish life in Dresden.
