City library becomes a makerspace for two days - 3D printing creative workshop for the curious

Invitation to the press event for Monday, 24 October 2016, 11 a.m.

Do libraries and hands-on programmes such as "Makerspace" or "Do-it-yourself" go together? Chemnitz City Library would like to prove this over two days.

Chemnitz City Library cordially invites you to the opening and presentation of the 3D printing workshop on

Monday, 24 October 2016, 11 a.m.

for a press and photo session at the Central Library in the TIETZ,

Science & Technology section.

This year, Chemnitz City Library is using the nationwide "Library Network" campaign week as an opportunity to focus on the topic of makerspaces.

Makerspaces are open, non-commercial spaces in which people work together creatively on physical objects. Public libraries are almost ideal places for this form of collaborative knowledge acquisition.

On 24 and 25 October 2016, part of the library will become a 3D printing workshop for the first time. Together with partners Fritzsche und Steinbach Bürosysteme GmbH, PROFIL Bildungsgesellschaft mbH and FabLab Chemnitz, the Central Library will be presenting applications and lectures on 3D printing technology over the two days. Customers and visitors to the city library will have a variety of opportunities to find out more and try out the new technology for themselves.

Library Network" campaign week

From 22 to 26 October 2016, Chemnitz City Library took part in the German Library Association's nationwide "Library Network" campaign with a series of events. The successful filmmaker and author Eberhard Görner ("inventor" of the TV series "Polizeiruf 110") will kick things off with a reading about the composer Walter Jurmann ("Veronika, der Lenz ist da") on 22 October 2016 at 7 pm in the TIETZ. He will be accompanied by Hartmut Behrsing (piano) and Jörn Behrsing (bassoon). The event is the city library's way of saying thank you to its many volunteers.

The humorous finale will be provided by Leipzig cabaret artist and director Küf Kaufmann with his book "Vodka is always kosher" on 26 October 2016 at 7 pm. Vodka loosens the tongue, fires up the heart and gets the storytelling going. Küf Kaufmann looks back on his turbulent life between the Black Sea and Saxony. With charm and subtlety, he tells of the adventures of love, the temptations of art and the difficulties of being Russian in Germany and Jewish in Russia.
