City election committee elected
The honorary committee acts as the municipal election committee for the 2014 local elections and for the European elections, which will also take place on 25 May 2014
The Chemnitz City Council elected the members of the city election committee for the 2014 local elections at its meeting yesterday. The election date is 25 May 2014 and City Treasurer Berthold Brehm was elected head of the election committee. The deputy chairman is Dr Reiner Hausding, Head of the Statistics and Elections Department of the City of Chemnitz. Both persons have already been appointed by the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior as Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the City Election Committee for the 2014 European elections.
For the city council elections and the local council elections in the Chemnitz districts of Euba, Einsiedel, Grüna, Klaffenbach, Kleinolbersdorf-Altenhain, Mittelbach, Röhrsdorf and Wittgensdorf, a joint city election committee must be elected in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act. Due to the simultaneous holding of the municipal elections and the European elections on 25 May 2014, the elected municipal election committee for the municipal elections also acted as the municipal election committee for the European elections.
Yesterday, the city council elected the following Chemnitz residents to the city election committee for the 2014 local elections and the 2014 European elections as assessors or deputies:
- at the suggestion of DIE LINKE: Christine Pastor/Anja Schale (assessors) and Monika Mozes/Ralf Thonfeld (deputies);
- as proposed by the CDU: Jens Schierenbeck-Lungwitz (assessor) and Joachim Höfler (deputy);
- as proposed by the SPD: Hanka Kliese (assessor) and Jens Fankhänel (deputy);
- as proposed by the FDP: Bärbel Richter (owner) and Annett Barthel (deputy);
- proposed by BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN: Hellfried Malech (assessor) and Dr Wielfried Haßelberg-Weyandt (deputy).
The city election committee: The City Election Committee is responsible for managing the elections and determining the election results. It negotiates and makes decisions in public meetings. Its tasks include the approval or rejection of election proposals. After the election, it also checks the election records of the election committees for correctness and completeness and is responsible for determining and establishing the final election results for the city council elections, the local council elections and the European elections.
The election committee consists of the chairperson and six assessors. It is made up of eligible voters and municipal employees and is to be elected by the city council. The parties and voters' associations represented in the city should be given appropriate consideration when appointing the election committee. The members of the municipal election committee work on an honorary basis. They may not be members of any other electoral body for the 2014 municipal elections and may not themselves be candidates or representatives or deputy representatives for nominations for the 2014 city council or local council elections. The assessors of the municipal election committee for the municipal elections and their deputies elected yesterday by resolution of the city council are also appointed as assessors or deputy assessors of the municipal election committee for the European elections in accordance with the European Election Regulations.
The city election committee continues to exist after the election until all work has been completed.
