CITY CYCLING: Prizes are awarded

On Friday, 17 November at 9.30 am at Pentagon 3, Brückenstraße 17, the winners of this year's CITY CYCLING campaign will be honoured. Mayor Knut Kunze will honour the most active cyclists and the best teams.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.
The award ceremony will take place during the annual event of the "Healthy Chemnitz" working group, which will be opened at 9 a.m. by Katja Uhlemann, Head of the Office for Prevention and Health. Following a specialist presentation, the CITY CYCLING award ceremony will take place.
Vivien Never (Team SG Adelsberg e. V.), who covered 1,776.20 kilometres during the 21-day campaign period, will be awarded the prize for the cyclist with the most kilometres cycled. The title of most active cyclist went to Kilian Tasche (Team Lauf-KulTour e. V.) with 2,498 kilometres cycled. The team with the most kilometres cycled per person is IMK-ERZ with 1,246.90 kilometres. Georgius-Agricola-Gymnasium achieved the most total kilometres cycled as a team (39,023.20) and also won in the category of the most bicycle-active school. The most bicycle-active daycare centre is the Stupsnasen daycare centre (Wiesenstraße) with 6,916.90 kilometres.
The CITY CYCLING event, which took place over 21 days in September, set new standards in Chemnitz this year: 3,222 people registered, 2,945 active cyclists contributed 638,591 kilometres. This corresponds to a CO2 saving of 103 tonnes compared to using a car. This means that all figures from previous years were exceeded. There was an increase of almost 89 per cent in the number of kilometres, and CO2 avoidance was almost doubled.
