City Council work in 2016 in facts and figures

What do the elected representatives actually debate? Citizens of this city can find out for themselves in various ways: in the citizen information system at www.chemnitz.de, attend a meeting in the public gallery or follow the meeting via livestream. Very few people realise how long a meeting of the sovereign can last and how often other bodies meet to discuss municipal issues.

Here is a brief overview in figures from 2016:

Twelve public and five non-public deliberations of the city council were held in 2016. The meeting time - public and non-public deliberations combined - totalled just under 39 hours. The shortest deliberation was in May with just under two hours, while the longest debate was in March with around eight hours. In total, the plenary session dealt with 139 public and four non-public draft resolutions for Chemnitz and the residents of Chemnitz. In the end, the committee adopted 138 public and four non-public administrative proposals. A total of 60 proposed resolutions (all public) were on the agenda in 2016. A total of 24 motions were adopted and thus issued to the administration.

A total of 18 information proposals were on the agenda this year. There were no urgent decisions by the Lord Mayor. A still significant number - combined with a high workload for the administration as the addressee of the enquiries - is recorded with 410 City Council enquiries submitted.

Since the June meeting, City Council meetings have also been broadcast live in sound and vision on www.chemnitz.de. In accordance with the City Council resolution of 2 September 2015, the live broadcast is made available for up to 499 simultaneous users. The recording of the meeting is then available online until the day of the next City Council meeting.

The six meetings broadcast this year were watched by a total of more than 10,000 viewers, with the special meeting on the provision of budget funds to the CFC on 16 December attracting the most viewers in total with more than 6,000 viewers.
