The city's citizens can follow what the elected representatives are debating in various ways. In addition to being able to read the documents in the citizen information system at www.chemnitz.de, the city council meetings can also be attended directly in the council chamber or streamed live from the comfort of your own home.
Below is a brief overview of the council's work in the past year:
Ten public city council meetings were held in 2025. The total meeting time was 47 hours and 9 minutes. The shortest meeting was recorded on 27 August with 48 minutes. The meeting on 12 March, in which the councillors adopted the City of Chemnitz budget for 2025/2026, was the longest debate at 10 hours and 11 minutes.
In total, the plenary session for Chemnitz and the residents of Chemnitz dealt with 144 public and 8 non-public draft resolutions. In the end, 115 public and 8 non-public administrative proposals were adopted by the committee.
In addition, a total of 75 motions for resolutions from the political groups represented on the City Council were on the agenda, all of which were public. A total of 26 motions were adopted and thus issued to the administration. A total of 16 information proposals were on the agenda this year.
A still significant number - combined with a high workload for the administration as the addressee of the enquiries - is recorded with 427 city council enquiries (including information requests).
The ten meetings this year were watched by a total of 13,710 viewers. Of these, 9,490 viewers watched the live stream. The recordings were subsequently watched by 4,220 viewers.
The budget meeting in March recorded the most live viewers with 4,870 as well as the most views afterwards with 759 interested parties.
