City Council recognises Citizens' Platform North
At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council decided to recognise the Northern Citizens' Platform for the districts of Borna-Heinersdof, Glösa-Draisdorf and Furth. The citizens' platform is run by the Waldorf School Association Chemnitz e.V. The platform was founded on 1 April 2019 and, like the others in the city, has a budget of €1.61 per inhabitant. Personnel costs and other material and equipment costs are also subsidised.
Active citizens, residents and stakeholders from associations, companies, citizens' initiatives and housing cooperatives in the city's neighbourhoods are thus given the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas on various topics.
The aim of the citizens' platform is to strengthen active participation and co-determination in social development. Planned urban development projects, the traffic situation, social and cultural offerings, sport and leisure as well as the development of the neighbourhood, e.g. with green spaces and play areas, are to be discussed openly. Questions, suggestions, criticism and complaints from citizens can be channelled to the city council and the administration. The Chemnitz North Citizens' Platform is managed by a coordination centre. The main tasks of the coordinator are the planning of appointments, the collection of information and communication within the citizens' platform and the city districts.
A total of around 11,800 people live in the Borna-Heinersdof, Glösa-Draisdorf and Furth districts (as at 31 March 2019).
The city now has a total of six citizen platforms.

- South (Helbersdorf, Hutholz, Markersdorf, Morgenleite and Kappel)
- Centre-East (Gablenz and Yorck area)
- West (Rabenstein, Rottluff, Reichenbrand, Siegmar, Schönau and Stelzendorf)
