City council launches road construction measures
Today, the city council initiated two further road construction measures that are to be realised this year, subject to the budget resolution:
Frankenberger Straße between Ebersdorfer Höhe and the local thoroughfare
The condition of this section of Frankenberger Straße shows numerous signs of damage, including cracks, unevenness and improper patching. It is therefore necessary to renew the asphalt surface of the road.
Several construction phases are required for the realisation of the construction measure. As there are no efficient diversion routes in the immediate vicinity and a full closure of the road is ruled out due to its importance in the road network, the construction work must be carried out on one side only. Traffic will be guided past the construction site on both sides by a mobile traffic light system. With the planned construction length of approx. 240 metres, four 120 metre long sections can be assumed. The construction work is scheduled to take six weeks and will cost around 213,000 euros.
Renewal of Erdmannsdorfer Straße
The city of Chemnitz is planning the second section of the Erdmannsdorfer Straße renewal this year. The first section from Annaberger Strasse to Comeniusstrasse has already been completed. The upcoming section from Comeniusstraße to the end of the road at the junction with Wolkensteiner Straße is 313 metres long. As part of the road construction, Eins will be laying a new drinking water pipe in the section from Comeniusstraße to Wolkensteiner Straße. The waste disposal company of the city of Chemnitz (ESC) intends to renovate the combined sewer. The entire project is being carried out as a coordinated construction project by the City of Chemnitz's civil engineering department, Eins and ESC.
The carriageway of the road shows clear signs of damage, and the edging and ancillary facilities are also heavily worn in sections. To minimise damage to the road surface, the pavement was covered with asphalt in places in the past. The fact that this is not a durable repair solution for the carriageway surface can be seen in the asphalt chipping at the edges of the patches, cracks and potholes within these repair areas.
The renewal of Erdmannsdorfer Straße will rectify this structurally poor condition, improve the quality of traffic flow in accordance with the relevant access function and eliminate the noise pollution caused to residents by the small pavement. On the right-hand side, the pavement will be renewed in sections, depending on its structural condition. The costs for renewing the carriageway amount to around 320,000 euros.
