City council launches new daycare needs plan until 2020
At its meeting today, the city council adopted the new daycare centre requirements plan for the period up to 2020. The aim of the daycare centre requirements plan is to implement the legal entitlement to education, upbringing and care for crèche and kindergarten children in a daycare centre or daycare facility and to provide sufficient after-school care places.
The new daycare centre requirements plan now provides a forecast up to 2020. According to this, an increase of 713 children with a legal entitlement to a childcare place in a daycare centre can be expected. This growing demand is due to increased utilisation of places, an increased number of births and population influx. The aim is to achieve a supply rate of 85 per cent of resident children for children of crèche age. As a result, a further 371 childcare places are planned by 2018 in addition to the capacities already agreed - including the construction of two daycare centres in solid construction in the city centre and Glösa. This includes the construction of a new centre in the Hilbersdorf district with 100 places. Furthermore, if there is demand, there will be a new centre in the Kaßberg/Altendorf districts, also with 100 places. In some existing facilities, capacities will be slightly expanded. This will create a further 71 places.
The last update of the daycare centre requirements plan was approved by the city council in June 2016. According to an analysis of the statistical data from the City of Chemnitz, the number of resident children aged 1 to 11 increased by 695 children between June 2016 and June 2017. As at 30 June 2017, there were 4,526 children aged between 1 and 3 years, 8,490 children aged between 3 and 7 years and 7,832 children aged between 7 and 11 years living in Chemnitz.
