City council has approved four open Sundays for 2019

At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council decided on the dates for four Sundays open for business in Chemnitz this year.

On the following four days, Chemnitz retail outlets may be open between 12 noon and 6 pm:

  • Sunday, 29 September 2019 - on the occasion of the "Days of Industrial Culture" event
  • Sunday, 3 November 2019 - on the occasion of the "Chemnitz Culture Days" event
  • Sunday, 1 December 2019 - on the occasion of the Chemnitz Christmas markets
  • Sunday, 15 December 2019 - on the occasion of the Chemnitz Christmas markets

The regulation is based on the Saxon Shop Opening Act of 1 December 2010, which allows shops to open for special occasions on up to four Sundays per year from 12 noon to 6 pm.

As Chemnitz is one of the most important centres of German industrial culture, the annual "Days of Industrial Culture" attract large numbers of people. For example, around 70 innovative and successful companies in the city open the otherwise closed doors of their premises and give up to 1,000 visitors per company the opportunity to gain an insight into the industrial facilities. The retail sector would like to participate in the "Days of Industrial Culture" in 2019 as part of the "Chemnitz Open" community event with campaigns, projects, activities and exhibitions. Coordination with the organisers of the CWE is already underway.

The "Chemnitz Culture Days" are intended to build on the events of previous years.
