City council elects two mayors

At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council elected the mayors for two departments, Department 3 - Law, Safety and Environmental Protection and Department 6 - Urban Development and Construction. The positions will be filled for seven years from 1 August.

The previous mayor of Department 6, Michael Stötzer, was re-elected. Knut Kunze will be responsible for Department 3 - Law, Safety and Environmental Protection.

At today's election date, there were four candidates for Department 3 and one candidate for Department 6.
Information on the elected candidates in detail:

Department 3 - Law, Safety and Environmental Protection: Knut Kunze

Knut Kunze is 52 years old and has worked at Chemnitz Police Headquarters since 1992. Most recently, he was responsible for the work of Chemnitz North-East Police Station with its approximately 200 employees.
Knut Kunze succeeds Miko Runkel, who has held the post since 2008 and did not stand for re-election.

Department 6 - Urban Development and Construction: Michael Stötzer (re-elected)

Michael Stötzer, born in 1972, has been Mayor for Urban Development and Construction since August 2015. He had previously been Head of Building Management and Building Construction since 2011. From 2009, he headed the Building Construction Office, where he had been Head of Department and Deputy Head of Office since 2007. Stötzer, who graduated in architecture with a degree in engineering, worked in various architectural firms in Chemnitz until 2007.
