City council elects Katja Uhlemann as head of the mayor's office
Yesterday, the city council elected Katja Uhlemann as the new head of the mayor's office in a closed session.
The 37-year-old studied political science and English at the University of Leipzig and worked as a freelance journalist and, following a traineeship, as an editor at a daily newspaper until 2006. From 2006 to 2007, she was press spokesperson for the district of Mittweida.
From 2007, Katja Uhlemann was press spokesperson for the city of Chemnitz and responsible for press and public relations, and from March 2014 she was head of the Communications, Marketing and Policy Department, where her responsibilities included the launch of the image campaign "The city is me". She has held the office of Mayor since July 2015.
