City council elects Cornelia Utech as head of the city's social services department
In the closed part of its meeting yesterday, Chemnitz City Council elected Ms Cornelia Utech (photo) as Head of the City of Chemnitz Social Welfare Office. Cornelia Utech, born in 1967, was appointed Acting Head of the City of Chemnitz Social Welfare Office on 1 January 2012 following the transfer of the previous Head of the Social Welfare Office. Since autumn 2013, Ms Utech has also been in charge of the pilot project "Immigration authorities are welcoming authorities" - Chemnitz is one of ten selected model locations in Germany.
Cornelia Utech is a trained nurse, public administrator and has a qualification in social management. She has worked in the social services department of the City of Chemnitz since 1990, including as a trainer for the city's trainees. From 1998 to 2006, she headed the branch office of the social welfare office in Wolgograder Allee, from 2007 to 2011 the social welfare department of the social welfare office and since 1 January 2012 the social welfare office itself as acting head.
Two applications were received in response to the internal administrative advertisement for the position of Head of the Social Welfare Department of the City of Chemnitz and were included in the selection process.
Yesterday, Chemnitz City Council followed the administration's proposal and elected Cornelia Utech as head of the Social Welfare Office at the earliest possible date.
