Rising pupil numbers expected over the next ten years - Altendorf primary school to be retained
The city council today confirmed the partial school network plans for primary and secondary schools. The future framework planning has thus been finalised. The sub-network plans represent the status of the current 2014/2015 school year and the long-term development up to the 2024/2025 school year. They also contain a statement on the capacity of the individual primary and secondary school locations.
Due to the increasing number of pupils in Chemnitz's secondary schools, there will be an increased demand for space in the coming school years that will exceed the existing capacity of the existing school buildings. The administration therefore intends to take targeted measures to compensate for the greater demand. Various options for increasing the capacity of secondary schools throughout the city are currently being examined. As a result, a draft resolution will be prepared by the administration.
Altendorf primary school to be retained
In contrast, the proposal to close Altendorf primary school was not confirmed by the city council today. The cancellation of Altendorf primary school had been proposed in order to meet the increasing demand for places for secondary school pupils. From the 2015/16 school year, pupils at Altendorf primary school were to attend the E. G. Flemming primary school, where they are already located due to the relocation caused by the construction work.
Due to the increasing number of secondary school pupils, the building will be fully utilised by the Altendorf secondary school alone. Following the withdrawal of the primary school, the three users of the Ernst-Heilmann-Straße 11 school site - the Altendorf primary school with after-school care and the Altendorf secondary school - will have a space programme from the 2015/2016 school year that can only be implemented in the short term by providing mobile classrooms.
