City Council decides to utilise additional financial resources

At its meeting today, the City Council decided to make a number of additional appropriations. These relate to the following areas in particular:

  • C³ Chemnitzer Veranstaltungszentren GmbH (500,000 euros)
  • EFC Eissport und Freizeit GmbH Chemnitz (400,000 euros)
  • Civil defence and disaster control (250,000 euros)
  • Animal park maintenance centre (250,000 euros)
  • Covering the social levy and additional requirements in the area of asylum (5.15 million euros)
  • Grants to independent organisations for the operation of day care centres (600,000 euros)
  • Youth welfare budget (2.7 million euros)
  • Swimming complex in Bernsdorf (1.05 million euros)
  • Martial arts hall in the Chemnitz sports forum (600,000 euros)
  • Management of the corona pandemic (total of 375,000 euros)
  • Management of schools and day-care centres (500,000 euros)
  • Electricity costs for street lighting, winter damage repair, winter road maintenance (1.8 million euros)
  • Removal of storm damage in public green spaces and communal forests (200,000 euros)

The above-plan provision of funds was made possible by additional funds from the Free State of Saxony. Instead of the previously planned general key allocations of around 217 million euros, the city will receive around 230 million euros. In addition, additional payments for key investment allocations totalling 1.5 million euros are available compared to the budget planning. The higher sums are the result of a more positive tax trend in the Free State on the one hand and a lower tax capacity of the city of Chemnitz compared to the independent cities of Dresden and Leipzig on the other.
