City Council decides to stabilise the work of the citizens' platforms

Yesterday, the City Council decided to continue the work of the citizens' platforms in Chemnitz. To this end, the contracts will be concluded until the end of June 2023.

In addition, the criteria and framework conditions according to which citizens' platforms work will be expanded to include the following points, among others:

  • Binding standards of cooperation, which in particular regulate the tasks of all participants and forms of involvement, will be jointly developed between the citizens' platforms and the city administration.
  • The citizens' platforms will work together with other community actors in the neighbourhoods in a cooperative and supportive manner.
  • The coordinators of the citizens' platforms will take part in a training programme offered by the city administration once a year.
  • At least 10 per cent of the citizens' budget will be used for measures by previously unsupported actors. This is intended to expand the scope of the citizens' platforms. New measures are projects by actors that were not yet subsidised in the previous year.
  • At least 10 per cent of the citizens' budget is used for child and youth participation measures.
  • At least once a year, each citizens' platform reports to the city council on all subsidised projects from the citizens' budget.

These and are the result of last year's evaluation and discussion of the platforms' work in the city council and a subsequent workshop in which the city council's parliamentary groups discussed the key points with the administration in January 2021.

Participation in the steering group of the platforms is open to all citizens who live, work or are members of associations or organisations based in the city area of the respective citizens' platform. In order to ensure regional relevance, this also applies to the respective supporting organisation. To avoid conflicts of interest, simultaneous membership in several citizens' platforms and the sponsorship of several citizens' platforms is excluded.
