City council decides to sell commercial space in the Leipziger Straße industrial park

At its meeting yesterday, the city council decided to sell a section of the Leipziger Straße industrial park to Verdion Chemnitz GmbH. The investor is developing around 80,000 m² of commercial space for Siemens AG, which is scheduled to go into operation by June 2014 at the latest. The City of Chemnitz is selling the site as a fully developed property, which includes the traffic development with connection to Leipziger Strasse and the site clearance for media connections and equalisation measures.

Siemens is planning to build a new plant where the existing sites will be merged and the production of components for electric vehicles will be established. The future site will employ 600 people, including 60 jobs in research and development. In addition, 50 new jobs are to be created. However, the company's site in Clemens-Winkler-Straße will be retained.

Commercial space in the north-west quadrant sold

The city council has also decided to sell a smaller area in the Nordwest-Quadrant industrial estate. De Sonic GmbH is planning to relocate its company site from Ottendorf to Chemnitz on 5,100 m². The company, which is active in special machine construction, will be able to increase its production capacity, which was no longer possible at the old site. The relocation will increase the number of employees to 21.
