City council decides to reorganise economic development

The city of Chemnitz's business development organisation is to be reorganised. The central tasks associated with this are to be transferred from the Chemnitz Economic Promotion and Development Company (CWE) to the city administration as a division of the Lord Mayor. The city council passed a fundamental resolution on this today. The process will be accompanied by a working group consisting of members of the City Council, the Economic Advisory Board and the Supervisory Board of CWE and representatives of CWE.

A strong and efficient business development organisation is the basis for the further development of Chemnitz as a city of industry and technology. The City of Chemnitz links business development directly with the administration in order to make processes even faster and more transparent. In this way, a business-friendly administration is to pursue an active settlement policy directly from the city hall.

The new business division is to be merged from the previous Business and Digitalisation staff unit with CWE employees. It will deal with all issues relating to business development, support for local companies, location and settlement management, active land marketing and the development of skilled labour.

The future CWE will focus its expertise and strengths on the areas of tourism promotion, destination development and city marketing. It will also be responsible for implementing specific projects for the city as a whole. The new company will remain the central point of contact for all areas of city marketing.

Following today's decision, the new structure will be prepared. Among other things, this concerns issues relating to the transfer of the employees concerned and the adjustment of the company's purpose. The relevant documents are to be submitted to the city council for a decision before the summer break. The structural change is expected to take effect on 1 July.
