City council decides to redevelop Neefestraße
At its meeting today, the city council decided to renovate Neefestraße between the junction with the 72 motorway and the Südring. In addition to the resurfacing of Neefestraße on this section, the construction project also includes the replacement of the Neefestraße bridge over the access road to Neefepark and the extension of the Neefestraße entry lane from Neefepark.
The bridge over the access road to Neefepark is in a very poor structural condition, meaning that future restrictions on its use cannot be ruled out. In addition, the lane leading into the city from Neefepark is considered an accident blackspot that needs to be defused. The asphalt pavement is also damaged to such an extent that all asphalt layers need to be renewed.
According to current plans, the construction work is scheduled to begin at the end of April 2023 and is expected to last until the end of 2024. Traffic will be diverted past the construction site during this time.
The total costs amount to 11.6 million euros, with the city of Chemnitz having already received funding of 5.7 million euros from the State Office for Road Construction and Transport and the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport. The City of Chemnitz is financing its own share mainly from the statutory toll revenue, which may only be used for federal roads.
