City council decides to redesign the outdoor facilities of the Altchemnitz school
At its meeting today, the Chemnitz City Council decided to redesign the outdoor facilities of the Altchemnitz special school.
A curved 1.50 metre wide circular path is planned at the back of the school grounds, which can be used as a roller track. Other play and exercise facilities include a table tennis table, a facility for strength exercises, a small streetball court, a play tower, a swing, two sandpits and various seating areas. A school garden with a container for garden tools is also planned.
Three small-crowned apple trees are to be planted on the forecourt, which will be used as "sugar cone trees" after some time.
In addition, 13 car parking spaces and two disabled parking spaces as well as 72 parking spaces for bicycles are planned. Three parking spaces for school transport vehicles will also be built to ease the drop-off and pick-up situation.
The costs for the new outdoor facilities amount to around 1 million euros. Funding has been promised, but the exact amount has not yet been finalised.
The historic school building and the gymnasium of the Altchemnitz school are currently being completely renovated and an extension is being built. Around 200 children between the ages of six and 16 with learning difficulties attend the Altchemnitz special school.
