City council decides to redesign the open spaces at the Georg Götz support centre
At its meeting today, the city council approved the redesign of the open spaces at the "Georg Götz" special needs school with a focus on hearing. In future, school sports will also be possible there.
A multifunctional playing field is planned, which can be used for both school lessons and after-school care. The pitch will have a synthetic surface and a ball catch fence. A long jump pit with two run-up lanes, two 50-metre sprint tracks and a shot put area will also be built. The western schoolyard area, currently used as a football pitch, will be converted into a recreation and exercise area for use during breaks and after-school care. The central play element is a climbing net pyramid.
The path from the schoolyard to the sports field will be barrier-free in future. Completion of the open spaces is planned for mid-2026.
The costs amount to around 1 million euros, with the city of Chemnitz receiving around 485,500 euros in funding from the "Improvement of school infrastructure" funding programme of the Free State of Saxony.
