At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council decided that the two vocational school centres for Business I and Business II will merge into one vocational school centre for business on 1 August 2026. A final name is still to be discussed.
The two school sites at Kanzlerstraße 9 and Lutherstraße 2 will remain, with Kanzlerstraße being run as the main building and Lutherstraße as the "Lutherstraße 2 school section". The Wielandstraße 4 branch of the Vocational School Centre for Business II will be discontinued and will be used for the grammar school sector in the future.
In this context, the occupations of administrative assistant and insurance and financial investment clerk will be relocated to Lutherstraße 2.
One reason for the merger is the relocation of professions. For example, in the 2021/2022 school year, the vocational school for the training occupation of
e-commerce was relocated to the Werdau site. This means that the Vocational School Centre for Business I is no longer a specialist class location for this training occupation. In addition, since the 2024/2025 school year, Chemnitz trainees in the professions of retail salesperson and sales assistant (two-year course) have been taught at the vocational school centre for construction and surface technology in the district of Zwickau, Limbach-Oberfrohna site. This means that schooling for training to become a salesperson will end at the end of the 2024/2025 school year and the three-year training to become a retail salesperson will end at the end of the 2025/2026 school year at the Vocational School Centre for Business II. The latter two professions are currently taught at the Wielandstraße 4 location.
On the other hand, the formation of a vocational school centre will result in synergy effects in terms of school organisation and staff deployment. Around 715 young people are currently studying at the Vocational School Centre for Business I and around 1050 students at the Vocational School Centre for Business II.
