City Council decides to extend contract with General Director of the Chemnitz Art Collections
In a non-public meeting yesterday, the City Council extended the contract with the General Director of the Chemnitz Art Collections until the end of 2017.
Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig: "Dr Ingrid Mössinger represents the city far beyond the borders of Saxony and contributes significantly to the outstanding international reputation of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz. Under her leadership, the Chemnitz Art Collections have developed into one of the most efficient museums in the whole of Germany. The recognition Dr Mössinger enjoys encourages both donors to support the Kunstsammlungen's projects and art collectors to bring their works to Chemnitz."
Dr Ingrid Mössinger has received numerous awards for her work, including Knight of the French Legion of Honour, Knight's Cross of the Danish Dannebrog Order and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Last year, Chemnitz University of Technology awarded her an honorary doctorate, and the year before she received the Saxon Order of Merit. In 2010, the Chemnitz Art Collections were named "Museum of the Year" by the German section of the International Association of Art Critics.
Dr Ingrid Mössinger has headed the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz as Director since September 1996 and as General Director since 2005, including the Carlfriedrich Claus Archive Foundation, the Gunzenhauser Museum, the Schlossberg Museum and the Henry van de Velde Museum in the Villa Esche.
The contract extension as General Director of the art collections is to be agreed on the condition that an earlier end to the contract is possible with six months' notice.
