City council decides to carry out construction work

At its meeting today, the City Council decided to carry out the following construction measures:

Municipal swimming pool - renewal of the large filter technology

The filter technology installed over thirty years ago needs to be replaced as at least one of the three sand filters is experiencing problems with filter flushing. Emergency repairs have already been carried out. It is assumed that there is severe corrosion damage to the internal construction. These problems are due to the age of the system. As a rule, these systems are technically worn beyond repair after 30 to 40 years. The total costs amount to around 400,000 euros. Construction is planned for the summer months and school holidays from June to August 2018 in order to minimise the impact on school and club sports. The municipal swimming pool will have to close during construction.

Small gymnasium in the Sportforum - renovation and extension

In order to secure and further develop the national centre for artistic gymnastics at the Sportforum site, the small gymnasium will be renovated and extended. The existing capacity problems make it impossible to organise training for all age groups. For the renovation work, a section of the neighbouring training hall for the throwers will be separated off and connected to the gymnasium. In addition to this extension, the exterior facade of the gymnasium will be renovated and the roof newly insulated. The ventilation ducts will be repaired and a new radiant ceiling heating system with lighting will be installed. The sports floor will also be renewed. The remaining throwing house will be converted into a cold hall that can be opened on one side for throwing sports. A jumping pit will be created in the gymnasium, which will be equipped with foam cubes, separating nets and pit edge padding. All fire safety requirements will be implemented as part of the construction work. The work cannot be carried out during ongoing operations. Construction is scheduled to start at the end of June 2018 and end at the beginning of January 2019. The total costs amount to approx. 1.6 million euros, of which 900,000 euros are earmarked for subsidies.

Harthau primary school - partial refurbishment

The refurbishment of the primary school is to be continued. So far, only partial renovations have taken place in House 1. The renovation of the basement in House 2 (plinth level) is currently underway as a result of the flood damage in 2013. During the renovation in 2009/2010, a potential connection between the two buildings on the site was also investigated. A lift is now to be added to House 1 to provide accessibility and connect the two buildings. In addition, a stair platform lift is required on the ground floor to bridge any differences in height. A barrier-free WC is also planned for the ground floor. In addition, all windows and window sills will be replaced and the exterior façade refurbished. The doors in the interior are to be replaced. New floor coverings will be laid in the classrooms and partly in the corridors. In the technical area of House 1, new waste water and drinking water pipes will be laid. In addition to the renovation of the plinth, which is already underway, the clinker and natural stone surfaces in House 2 will be repaired. Plaster repairs will also be carried out, new interior walls for toilets will be installed, the interior doors on the upper floor will be renewed and the insulation of the floor in the attic will be installed. New wastewater pipes need to be laid for the newly planned after-school care and group work area on the first floor. The heating system on the upper floor will be replaced. Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of May 2018 and end at the end of December 2019, with the total cost amounting to 2.2 million euros. Just under 880,000 euros will come from subsidies.

Josephinenschule II Agnesstraße sports hall - refurbishment

The sports hall to be renovated is used by the Josephinen secondary school. The school building has been undergoing fundamental refurbishment since 2016 in order to expand its capacity from two to three pupils. The sports hall is to be adapted to the increasing number of pupils and made barrier-free. Plans include renewing the hall floor, installing underfloor heating, drying out the exterior walls and repairing the interior plaster. In addition, a bumper wall and a new ceiling are to be installed. Furthermore, the roof structure will be renovated and the electrical and heating installations as well as the drinking water and waste water pipes will be completely renewed. On the outside, the clinker brick façade and the natural stone elements are to be renovated. New changing rooms and sanitary facilities are planned, as well as a new main entrance and a new side entrance to the sports field. In addition to the refurbishment of the sports hall, the playground is to be remodelled, raised beds newly created, the fence boundary adapted and the access road to Agnesstrasse lowered. The lawn and green areas will also be restored. The work is scheduled to start at the beginning of March 2018 and be completed by mid-December 2018. The costs amount to 916,500 euros. Of this, around 674,000 euros in funding from the Saxon Investment Strengthening Act, "Saxony" budget is planned.
