City council decides to build a new basketball court
At its meeting today, the city council decided to build a new basketball court in Konkordiapark and to renovate the existing court.
The construction of the new court is planned in accordance with FIBA requirements so that international tournaments can also be organised. The existing pitch will also be renovated and given a synthetic surface.
In order to connect the two playing areas with each other and with the existing path structures, a paved court area is planned, which will be interrupted by two large raised beds. These are to be attractively planted with shady shrubs and other plants and invite people to sit and linger.
In addition to the two competition-standard hoops on the new main pitch, a total of six new basketball hoops are planned for the existing pitch.
In order to be able to use both pitches - like other games in Konkordiapark - even in poor lighting conditions or for an evening tournament, for example, two floodlight masts are planned for each pitch. The pitch will also be equipped with a drinking fountain and a retractable power supply/distributor. Bicycle racks, two additional benches in the area of the existing pitch and litter bins are also planned.
Construction is expected to start in February 2024, with the sports areas scheduled to be ready for use in the third quarter of 2024 and the grass and wooded areas a little later. Completion maintenance for the wooded areas will continue until 2025.
The costs amount to around 1.1 million euros, more than 80 per cent of which can be covered by funding from the Free State of Saxony.
Furthermore, a three-stage, temporary seat traverse is to be erected, provided that realisation and financing are secured at the start of construction.
