City council decides on mobile classrooms for the Altendorf school site

At its meeting today, the city council decided to purchase mobile classrooms in the form of containers for Altendorf primary school.

As a result of the decision on the sub-school network plan for secondary schools and the city council's decision to retain Altendorf primary school, there is a shortage of classrooms at the school site at Ernst-Heilmann-Straße 11. A short-term measure is necessary to ensure that the school can continue to operate. Mobile classrooms in the form of containers will be set up for this purpose. These mobile classrooms will be needed for at least three years. During this time, a long-term alternative will be developed.

From an economic point of view, the purchase of such containers is cheaper over this period than renting them. The costs of the overall measure, comprising the necessary foundation and development work as well as the purchase of the containers, amount to approx. 890,000 euros. This means that the mobile classrooms will remain with the City of Chemnitz even after the three years of use and can continue to be used at other locations. They can be dismantled and have a service life of twelve years.

The construction decision will be presented to the city council for a decision in December.
