City council decides on gardening and landscaping measures

The City Council approved the following construction measures at its meeting today.

Renovation of Scharnhorstplatz
Scharnhorstplatz, located in Hilbersdorf, has been a protected garden monument since 1997. The measure includes both the refurbishment in line with the monument and the reorganisation and redesign of pathways (additional path to improve the connection to the bus stop on Margaretenstraße), the provision of contemporary facilities for recreation and play as well as supplementary planting and maintenance measures for the historic plant stock. The renovation work is scheduled for completion at the end of 2019 and will cost 450,000 euros, with 337,500 euros in funding from the Saxon Investment Strengthening Programme Budget "Bund".

Renovation of the outdoor area at Einsiedel daycare centre
The entire outdoor area of the daycare centre is being renovated in order to restore an attractive outdoor area that can be used by the children. The construction work is taking place while the daycare centre is still in operation. New paved areas, sand and mud areas, including planting, will be created; the associated play equipment was selected taking into account the wishes of the parents. The measure has become more expensive due to difficult ground conditions, which necessitated a partial replacement of the subsoil. The total costs amount to 357,976 euros and are being supported with 126,976 euros in ERDF funding. The project will end in the middle of next year.

Renovation of the Albert-Schweitzer-Straße playground
The area is part of the public green corridor of the Talangerbach floodplain and part of a garden monument. The playground on Albert-Schweitzer-Straße will be given new play facilities designed for children aged between 6 and 16. Stairs, ramps and paths will be renovated and new seating will be created. The project will be completed at the end of 2018. The costs amount to 250,000 euros and will be subsidised with 187,500 euros from the Saxon Investment Strengthening Programme Budget "Bund".

Renovation of outdoor area at Yorckstraße daycare centre
The play and recreation area at the Yorckstraße daycare centre is being redesigned. Among other things, the range of games on offer will be expanded, new outdoor spaces created, usable areas such as rubbish bins rearranged and floor coverings upgraded. The project has been running since the middle of this year and will be completed by the end of 2019. The costs for the refurbishment amount to a total of 250,000 euros with a 75% funding share from the Saxon Investment Strengthening Programme Budget "Bund".

Refurbishment of the Einsiedel primary school playground
The playground and sports facilities in the schoolyard are being refurbished so that school sports can once again take place without restrictions. Planned measures include the construction of two long jump pits, a sprint track, a long ball throwing area and facilities for football and basketball. In addition, the paths in the school garden will be redesigned and a green classroom is planned. The measures will cost 220,000 euros, which will be financed entirely from the city's own funds. The refurbishment measures will be completed by the end of 2018.
