City council decides on further civil engineering measures for this year
At its meeting yesterday, Chemnitz City Council approved two further civil engineering measures for this year.
Renewal of Hofer Straße (B 173) in the section from house no. 44 to the entrance to the town
The plan is to renew the road surface in Hofer Straße in the Mittelbach district from house number 44 to the entrance to the town. The project of the State Office for Road Construction and Transport (LASuV) to upgrade the B 173 junction with the S 245 to a roundabout will continue in the direction of Neefestraße.
The measure includes the installation of a surface course on the carriageway and, if required, binder and base courses, as well as concrete paving on the footway. In addition, pedestrian paths will be laid on both sides of the carriageway. A total of four barrier-free bus stops will also be created. In principle, the character of the local thoroughfare will be retained.
In the town centre, the continuation of the cycling facilities in accordance with the Saxony cycling concept for the B 173 will be implemented on Hofer Straße as far as Aktienstraße. In accordance with the city of Chemnitz's cycle traffic concept, cyclists will be guided into Aktienstraße.
A new crossing point will be built on Aktienstraße to increase road safety. The Grünaer Straße centre island will also be adapted for agricultural traffic.
The section of Hofer Straße to be planned has a length of approx. 1,300 metres with widths of 9 to 16 metres with connections for Falkestraße, Grünaer Straße and Zum Sandbach. The work to be realised between Grünaer Strasse and Aktienstraße is to be completed in 2015. The section from Aktienstraße to the entrance to the village will be completed after the winter break in 2016. Construction will be carried out on one side of the road in sections, with traffic controlled by traffic lights on both sides. A weekend during the autumn school holidays with full road closures is planned for the installation of the surface course for each service year. Around 800,000 euros have been earmarked for the project, including around 260,000 euros in subsidies.
Stelzendorfer Bach culvert in the course of Stelzendorfer Straße
The City of Chemnitz intends to replace the culvert in the public area as part of a coordinated construction project on Stelzendorfer Straße. In the course of regular structural inspections, the condition of the culvert was found to be unsatisfactory. Furthermore, the existing load-bearing capacity of the culvert is no longer sufficient.
There is insufficient freeboard at the existing transition from the vault to the trapezoidal cross-section for the design flood of HQ50. Due to the narrowing of the cross-section, a backwater occurs here. The waste disposal company of the city of Chemnitz is planning to replace the main collector in the area of the culvert and also in the further course of Stelzendorfer Straße, including the renewal of two stormwater overflows. In this context, the culvert, including the road construction, is to be renewed as a coordinated measure. Around 1.3 million euros have been budgeted for this construction project.
