City council decides on construction measures
At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council confirmed the construction decisions for the following measures, subject to the adoption of the budget statutes for 2017/2018:
Renewal of the Südring carriageway between Helbersdorfer Straße and Paul-Bertz-Straße
This construction project involves the renewal of the carriageway of the Südring in the direction of Stollberger Straße between Helbersdorfer Straße and Paul-Bertz-Straße over a length of 690 metres. With an average of approx. 17,000 vehicles per day and a heavy traffic share of approx. 11 per cent on the northern carriageway of the Südring, the area in question is subject to a high traffic load. As a result of this traffic load, the construction section is characterised by severe chipping, cracks in the network, rutting and subsidence of the carriageway.
The renewal of the carriageway envisages a complete replacement of the asphalt layer. In this context, a noise-optimised asphalt surface course will be applied to reduce noise emissions from the carriageway. The kerbs and road drains will also be renewed. Further along the route, the carriageway drains via verges to the right-hand edge of the carriageway. The verges on the low-lying and high-lying edges will be stripped and renewed.
Traffic in the direction of Stollberger Straße will be restricted to one lane and diverted onto the opposite carriageway in the area of Helbersdorfer Straße as far as Stollberger Straße. Traffic in the opposite direction will also be restricted to one lane.
The measure will cost around 470,000 euros. Construction is scheduled to take place during the summer holidays from 26 June to 4 August 2017.
Coordinated measure - renewal of the Frühlichtweg road
As part of the extensive civil engineering work being carried out by the utility companies (renewal of the sewer system, new drinking water pipeline, fibre optic development), the city has decided to also rebuild the road and pavements on Frühlichtweg as part of a coordinated construction project.
The construction costs for the 230 metre long section of road amount to around 260,000 euros.
Construction is planned in two phases, from July to November 2017 and March to June 2018.
Full road closures will be required in sections during the roadworks.
Diversions are possible via Clausstraße, Grüner Winkel or Heimgarten.
