City council decides on civil engineering measures
At its meeting today, the City Council approved the following civil engineering measures:
Replacement bridge Hedwigstraße over the Würschnitz
The existing bridge with its current flow cross-section does not fulfil the requirements of the flood protection concept, making it necessary to construct a new replacement in coordination with the flood protection measures of the state dam administration (LTV). This should ensure the safe discharge of a flood of HQ25 plus an average freeboard of at least 0.5 metres.
The new construction will be carried out in the existing location. The construction period is 19 months. This is due to the fish protection period, during which construction is only permitted from May to September. An application will be made for an exemption licence.
The project will be carried out with the bridge fully closed. The right-of-way residential area can be reached via Friedrichstraße from Annaberger Straße. For this purpose, a selective upgrading of Friedrichstraße is necessary to ensure access for emergency and refuse vehicles during the construction period. The total costs (including the LTV's preliminary planning costs) amount to 1.14 million euros. Construction is scheduled to start in March 2020 and end in November 2021.
Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße carriageway and pavement renewal
The coordinated construction project covers the 492 metre-long section from Zschopauer Straße to Bernsdorfer Straße. The city's waste disposal company is renewing the combined sewer and the old sewer is being decommissioned.
The surface drainage of the carriageway will also be improved. The carriageway will receive a new asphalt layer. The project also includes the barrier-free conversion of the two bus stops on Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße. The pavement will also be renewed. A protective pipe route including cable ducts will be laid in the pavement in preparation for a later broadband expansion. The costs for the city amount to 589,000 euros. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-March 2021. Construction is scheduled to end at the end of November 2021. Information on any necessary closures and/or diversions will be provided in good time.
Replacement construction of the Klaffenbacher Straße bridge over the Würschnitz river
The Klaffenbacher Straße bridge over the Würschnitz does not fulfil the requirements of the flood protection concept with the existing flow cross-section including the central pillar. In addition, the structure has considerable structural defects that make it necessary to build a new replacement. The existing bridge will be replaced by a reinforced concrete frame structure. The bridge is located in the crossing area of the B 95, which is why the carriageway crossings will be made barrier-free. Due to the fish protection period, a construction period of 20 months is planned. Construction will start at the beginning of April 2020 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2021.
The construction work will be carried out with a full closure of Klaffenbacher Straße. The diversion will be via Chemnitzer Straße and Klaffenbacher Hauptstraße. The B95 will be closed on one side and traffic will be regulated by traffic lights.
The costs total 1.85 million euros and the construction project is being subsidised by the Free State of Bavaria to the tune of 1.20 million euros.
