City council decides on building construction measures

At its meeting today, the City Council decided to carry out the following building construction measures.

Obere Luisenschule - primary school - barrier-free extension

The Obere Luisenschule will have barrier-free access to the school building. The new entrance is located on the courtyard side in the basement. The addition of a lift will provide barrier-free access to all floors. The construction, which is planned to take place without disrupting school operations, is scheduled to begin in June this year and be completed in April 2018. The costs amount to 475,000 euros, of which 225,000 euros are subsidies from the Saxon Investment Strengthening Act, federal budget.

Lower Luisen School - secondary school - barrier-free expansion

The Untere Luisenschule will also have barrier-free access. The new entrance will be on the west side. The building will also be equipped with a lift to provide barrier-free access to all floors. The installation of a barrier-free disabled toilet is planned in the basement. The work, which is to be carried out while the school remains open, is scheduled to begin in July 2017 and is due to be completed in April next year. The total costs amount to 604,000 euros, including 378,305 euros in funding from the Saxon Investment Strengthening Act, federal budget.

Arno-Schreiter-Straße secondary school - refurbishment/conversion

The school building at Arno-Schreiter-Straße 1 will be used for a new three-form entry secondary school. The necessary refurbishment will begin in July 2017 as a further construction phase and should be completed in January 2018. The costs amount to around 1,667,000 euros, which will be borne entirely by the city. The complete refurbishment includes the renovation of the façade with thermal insulation, including new doors and windows, the drying out of the building and the renewal of the underground pipework. A new electrical system will also be installed. Fire protection, safety, thermal and sound insulation requirements will also be taken into account during the refurbishment. The sanitary facilities will also be modernised. The outside area will also be redesigned. As part of the ongoing partial refurbishment of the building, a barrier-free access with a lift, ramp and disabled toilet is already being installed.

Arno-Schreiter-Straße secondary school - refurbishment of the two gyms

In addition to the school building, the two gyms are also being renovated. This will begin in July 2017 and should be completed in July 2018. The costs amount to around 1,853,000 euros. Of this, around 1,108,000 euros in funding from the Saxon Investment Strengthening Act, federal budget. The two sports halls need to be reconstructed as they no longer meet today's requirements for school sports halls in terms of energy efficiency. The following measures are planned for the complete refurbishment: Conversion and extension of the entrance areas with disabled WCs, the halls will receive a new roof covering, refurbishment of the exterior façade taking into account the thermal insulation requirements, installation of new windows, installation of disabled WCs and conversion of the sanitary area for sports teachers, creation of a cleaning room and a new toilet.The refurbishment will also include the renovation of the heating, electrical, sanitary and ventilation installations and the installation of new radiators and pipework in adjoining rooms. The stairwells of both halls will be renovated, as will the railings on the gallery.

Music school - renovation of the courtyard façade including drainage

The refurbishment of the building envelope is to be completed with the final measures. From April 2018, the gable façade wing facing Gerichtsstraße and the courtyard façade are to be renovated. The total costs amount to 525,000 euros, including 3750,000 euros in funding from the Saxon Investment Strengthening Act, federal budget,

The renovation of the gable façade on the wing facing Gerichtsstraße will be carried out in line with the renovation of the street façades that has already been completed. This also includes the installation of new windows. The exit door will be fitted with a glass roof. The courtyard façades are also to be reconstructed. The courtyard-side basement windows on the Gerichtsstraße wing will be replaced. The Gerichtsstraße wing will be made accessible via a lift in the basement. The exterior walls of the Gerichtsstraße wing will be exposed on the street and courtyard sides down to the basement, cleaned and sealed again.
