City council decides on building construction measures

Chemnitz City Council approved the following three building construction measures at its meeting today:

Construction of a new fire station in Glösa
In accordance with the city of Chemnitz's fire protection requirements plan, a new fire station will be built for the Chemnitz-Glösa volunteer fire brigade in conjunction with a branch of the FW 2 - Hilbersdorf rescue station. The site at Bornaer Straße 205 was acquired by the city as a suitable location. The city of Chemnitz will be responsible for the construction of the new fire station. The total costs for this amount to approx. 1.9 million euros, of which 540,000 euros have been applied for funding. The rescue association will finance the construction of the new rescue centre independently. Construction will begin in November 2017 with site clearance; completion of the fire station is scheduled for January 2019.

Conversion of the old Klaffenbach gymnasium
As part of the completed KII economic stimulus programme, a new gymnasium was built with a connection to the old gymnasium. In order to continue using the old gym building, new sanitary and changing areas are now being installed there. With the exception of the roof covering and roof construction, the hall will be completely renovated and remodelled. Costs totalling around 1.07 million euros will be incurred, including around 485,000 euros in funding. Construction will begin in March 2018 and is expected to be completed in January 2019.

The two measures mentioned above will be co-financed with tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the members of the Saxon state parliament.

Renovation of the Schlossberg Museum façade
Climatic conditions, moisture and salinisation have taken their toll on the masonry of the Schlossberg Museum. The façade of the Schlossberg Museum is being renovated to preserve the cultural monument. The refurbishment includes the installation of new fire protection windows, sealing and repairing cracks in the façade. The city is financing the project with 330,000 euros from its own funds. Work will begin in April 2018 and the refurbishment should be completed by July.
