City council decides on building construction measures

The City Council approved the following building construction measures at its meeting today.

Reinforcement of the fire protection on the ceilings and the building alarm system in the Josephinenschule I building

In the Josephinenplatz building of the Josephinenschule complex, the ceiling panelling, the steel joists and the ceiling penetrations need to be renovated. The installation of the electrical cables no longer complies with current fire protection regulations. In addition, the building alarm system must be adapted to the current regulations.

In all rooms, the acoustic and other drywall suspended ceilings will be removed and partially replaced, the ceiling plaster will be reapplied, electrical cables will be re-clad and painting work will then be carried out. The building alarm system with control centre, cables and devices, the security lighting and the room lighting will be replaced. Energy-saving LED lights will be used for the room lighting. The data network in the school building will be rebuilt. As part of the refurbishment, the lift from the foyer to the gymnasium connecting corridor will also be removed. Barrier-free access has been available here since the refurbishment of the second sports hall. In the basement, individual walls will be drained and further accesses to rooms used as dining areas will be created.

The refurbishment is being carried out without disrupting school operations. The floors will be refurbished one after the other. This means that they can be fully utilised again once the stages have been completed. A period of three months is planned for each floor. The work is scheduled to begin in the 2019 winter holidays and be completed in December 2020. The costs amount to around 1.2 million euros.

Reconstruction of the main stadium in the Sportforum

The renovation of the main stadium in the Sportforum includes the renovation of the tower building with accommodation for the Olympic training centre, demolition of the spectator facility in the south curve area and redesign of the north curve. The grandstand areas that are to be retained will be paved and reorganised for training use and use as standing and recreation areas during events. The entire area is to be newly fenced, the goal judge's tower rebuilt and the technical facilities renewed. The overall construction project is divided into five sections. In the first section, the stands will be renovated, in the second the functional buildings and the judges' tower will be rebuilt, in the third the pitch and the playing facilities will be renovated, in the fourth the technical facilities and in the fifth the tower building will be renovated and made usable for the Olympic training centre. The renovation (section three) of the tartan track, the jumping areas and the lawn with irrigation system will be carried out subject to the approval of funding. This construction phase is planned to follow on from sections one, two and five and in conjunction with section four.

Following the demolition of the south curve, two new single-storey functional buildings will be constructed on both sides of the tower building. These will house changing rooms and sanitary facilities, storage rooms, barrier-free public toilets, a competition office, a room for display technology and various ancillary rooms for the technical building equipment. The space requirements were agreed with associations and clubs. The demolition of the spectator facilities in the south curve will also affect the judges' tower. This is required for daily training operations and competitions. It will be rebuilt.

The technical facilities in the stadium will also be modernised. The current display technology and the existing lighting elements will be dismantled first. They will be replaced by training facility lighting, eight lighting masts, which also contain a public address system. In addition, new display technology for the most essential functions of training and competition operations will be installed. A surrounding cable duct system for the media technology will also be installed.

The tower building will undergo extensive refurbishment. The Olympic training centre will move in here. Office and administration areas as well as sports medicine rooms, such as physiotherapy and ergometry, and storage rooms will be housed in the tower.

Construction is scheduled to start in May 2019 and end in December 2020. The total costs amount to around 9.4 million euros; the construction project is being applied for funding from the federal special funding programme "Renovation of municipal facilities in the areas of sport, youth and culture".

Voice alarm, safety lighting and lighting systems in the multi-purpose athletics hall at the Sportforum are being replaced

The measures described above must be implemented to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations. Core holes need to be drilled in one room for ventilation. In addition, a cooling pipe must be laid for the air conditioning of the battery room and the room for the voice alarm system. Waterproofing work will be carried out in the roof area. In addition, a fire-retardant ceiling will be installed for the pipework in the space between the ceilings in the corridor area. Fire-resistant glazing to the sprint cellar will also be installed there. In the sports hall, acoustic wall panelling in the grandstand area has to be removed and reinstalled for the electrical installation. New safety lights need to be installed in the step area of the stands. There are also plans to replace the existing hall lights with modern ball-proof LED lights.

Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2020 and end in August 2020. The costs amount to around 931,000 euros, of which 546,000 euros are subsidies.

Renovation of the sports floor in the Richard Hartmann Hall

The sports floor in the Richard Hartmann Hall needs to be replaced due to the worn surface and defective substructure. When the sprung floor substructure is installed, the existing insulation and seal must also be replaced. The new sports floor is intended to prevent overloading of the body through excessive strain and uncontrolled falls as far as possible. This is why parquet is being laid.

The construction work is scheduled to begin after the NINERS basketball season, last over the summer holidays and be completed in August. This is the period when the Hartmannhalle is least frequented. The costs amount to around 578,000 euros.
