City council decides on building construction measures

At its meeting today, the City Council decided to carry out the following building construction measures.

Large gymnasium in the Sportforum

The large gymnasium in the Sportforum is the sporting home of the male gymnasts in Chemnitz. The available space no longer meets the requirements of a national centre for artistic gymnastics. The current capacities no longer allow training for all age groups and for national squads in the required quality. The hall is therefore to be extended. In addition to the larger hall area required, the existing two-storey functional building will also be extended. A new gym on the ground floor and a new gymnastics room on the upper floor are to be added. The after-school care centre will be retained. In addition to roofing work, the façade will be renovated, new windows installed and the entrances to the hall enlarged. Perforated metal sheets will be installed in front of the windows to provide thermal insulation in summer. The extension also includes plastering, painting and tiling work and the renewal of the floor coverings.

In addition, the ceramics in the existing sanitary facilities will be renewed, both ventilation units will be replaced and a new radiant ceiling heating system will be installed. Access to the hall will be made barrier-free so that visitors with disabilities can also enter without any problems. The doors can be opened and closed using a mechanical drive. There will also be a barrier-free visitor toilet on the ground floor.

The refurbishment and extension of the building will be carried out in three phases in order to minimise the impact on training operations. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2018 and end in September 2019 at a cost of €5.66 million, of which €3.81 million is earmarked for federal sports funding.

Schlossberg Museum

In December 2018, the 10-year period for the existing certificate from the Association of Property Insurers (VdS) ends at the Schloßbergmuseum. This insurance cover must be renewed and the burglar alarm technology adapted to current VdS guidelines. The burglar alarm system must be renewed. In addition, the escape route system and the video systems need to be checked and adapted. Construction is scheduled to start in June and end in December 2018. The costs amount to 292,000 euros. These will be borne by the city.
