City council decides on building construction measures

At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council decided to implement the following building construction measures:

Glösa primary school - new extension building

The Glösa primary school will receive a new three-storey extension to accommodate two pupils, which will then form a building ensemble with the existing primary school and gymnasium.

The new building will be a solid construction with a flat roof and will have a barrier-free connection to the existing school building and barrier-free access to the gymnasium and schoolyard. Sanitary facilities (incl. disabled WC) and a disabled-accessible passenger lift will be located in the gap between the old and new buildings, leading from the basement to the 2nd floor. In addition, a disabled changing room including WC and shower will be attached to the gymnasium.
The new building connects directly to the corridor of the existing building on each floor.

A total of four classrooms, four specialised classrooms, two teaching materials rooms, two preparation rooms, four cloakrooms and a multi-purpose room with a serving kitchen will be created. There will also be sanitary facilities and various ancillary rooms.
A photovoltaic system with 24 modules will also be installed on the flat roof.

The construction project is estimated to cost a total of 3.3 million euros.

Klaffenbach primary school - 2nd escape route and fire protection measures

The Klaffenbach primary school building, which was originally built in 1889 and has been extended several times over the years, last underwent minimum structural fire protection measures in 2001. A second escape and rescue route is now to be created by separating the stairwells in the old building and the extension. Existing wooden beam ceilings and steel girders are to be clad with fire protection panelling.

The staircase and classroom in the extension will each have a direct exit to the outside on the ground floor and from there a new route to the existing external staircase.

The planned route of the 2nd escape route from the old building on the 1st floor is to lead over the roof of the intermediate building. This also requires several conversion measures including a door opening to the outside.

Furthermore, the building alarm system will be renewed or extended, safety lighting and smoke and heat extraction systems will be installed and pipework will be re-insulated in accordance with fire protection regulations.
The total costs amount to around 580,000 euros.

Daycare centre relocation property at Johannes-Dick-Straße 55 - fire protection measures

The daycare centre at Johannes-Dick-Straße 55 is required for other facilities that have to be vacated as a result of construction work or similar.

In terms of fire protection, however, the facility does not meet the current requirements, which result from the Saxon building regulations and other applicable fire protection-relevant guidelines, among other things. It is therefore necessary to retrofit fire doors and airlocks in all common areas. Furthermore, a second escape route is to be created by means of an external steel staircase on the gable end and self-closing, smoke-tight, fire-retardant doors are to be installed. In addition, the electrical systems in the entire building section of the day care centre will be renewed, safety lighting will be installed and escape routes will be marked. A building alarm system will also be installed and automatic smoke detectors will be fitted in corridors and cloakrooms.
In order to fulfil the hygiene requirements for a serving kitchen, one room will be fitted with new water pipes and tiles.
The total cost of the building work amounts to around 310,000 euros.
