City council decides on building construction measures
At its meeting today, the city council decided to carry out the following building construction measures, subject to the approval of funding.
Borna primary school / complete refurbishment
The construction project includes the complete refurbishment of the former Chemnitzer Sonderpädagogisches Förderzentrum Chemnitzer Körperbehindertenschule on Wittgensdorfer Straße and the construction of a new sports hall. The Borna primary school and the after-school care centre are to be located at the future school site. The total cost of the construction project, which is scheduled to last from April 2016 to July 2017, is around 8.5 million euros. Of this, 3.38 million euros in funding has been applied for.
Boarding school at the sports high school / complete refurbishment
The building at the Sportforum site at Reichenhainer Straße 202 in 09125 Chemnitz is to be completely refurbished. It has two identical buildings constructed in 1972: House 1 - the former sports centre and House 2 - currently a boarding school. Once the former sports centre has been vacated, it will be converted for boarding school use. The building has a ground floor and four upper floors as well as a partial basement. The buildings are to undergo a complete refurbishment and the construction of a new extension is planned. This will provide contemporary room structures with additional communal rooms and new rooms for the building services in the basement. The building complex will be designed to be barrier-free. The total costs amount to around 7,130,000 euros. Of this, 2,850,000 euros in funding has been applied for. The planned construction period is from March 2016 to October 2017. Preparatory measures have already been carried out, e.g. demolition of the connection between the two buildings in August 2015.
New town hall / roof renovation
Due to moisture damage in the roof area and the rooms below, the roof of the New Town Hall is to be renovated at a cost of around 1.3 million euros. Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2016 and end in November 2016. The New Town Hall was built between 1907 and 1911 and has an unusual roof construction: both the Old and the New Town Hall have a mansard roof divided into rafters and roof areas
