City council decides on building construction measures
Extension of Adelsberg primary school and data network expansion at Dr Wilhelm André grammar school
At its meeting today, the city council decided to expand the capacity of Adelsberg primary school and extend the data network at Dr Wilhelm André Grammar School.
Adelsberg primary school
The space available at the existing primary school will be expanded to meet the needs of a two-form entry primary school with eight classes. The outdoor facilities will also be upgraded.
Eight classrooms and four specialist classrooms for art, handicrafts, music and IT will be created, as well as two group rooms and two after-school care rooms, plus office and meeting rooms for the after-school care centre and various social areas.
The new building will be constructed on the south side of the existing building and connected via a glazed staircase at the rear, which will form the new second escape route and provide an exit at street level.
The existing building will remain the main building. The new building borrows from the existing façade, in which the individual storeys are emphasised by projecting cornices. This is echoed in the new building by a light-coloured banding projecting from storey to storey. The recessed window level is clad in wood. This creates a high-contrast interplay between colours and materials. The rounded corners of the building allow it to blend softly into its surroundings and create a flowing movement across all sides.
The façade has openings on all sides. This creates an interplay of larger fixed-glazed windows and smaller elements with opening sashes. The parapet height is 50 cm. The windows that can be opened will have an additional glass parapet on the outside to prevent falls.
A new terrace is to be created in front of the canteen, which will take up the ground floor level and can also be used as an event area. A staircase and seating steps will lead up the western slope, creating a new connection between the school and the green spaces. This offers new opportunities for recreation and use and enables an external connection between the ground and upper floors, which could possibly be used for a green classroom or an open-air theatre in conjunction with the seating steps.
The construction project at Adelsberg primary school will cost around 4.4 million euros, which will be financed from the City of Chemnitz's own funds.
The preparatory construction work will begin in November 2021. The school will then be relocated in February 2022 and is scheduled to be ready for use at the start of the 2023 school year.
Dr Wilhelm André Grammar School
A data network for all classrooms and other rooms that have not yet been connected will be created for Dr Wilhelm André Grammar School. To this end, two new server rooms will be built in the attic of the building, equipped with new (additional) network nodes and fitted with a new air conditioning system. The capacity of an existing server room will be expanded. In addition, new horizontal cable routes will be installed in the area of the entire attic and new vertical riser routes in the affected rooms to be extended.
In the classrooms/rooms to be retrofitted, cable ducts and sill ducts will be installed and integrated into the junction boxes.
The costs for the measure at Dr.-Wilhelm-André-Gymnasium amount to around 540,000 euros, of which 280,000 euros are subsidies from the Free State's "KomInvest II" funding programme for schools.
Work will begin in March 2022 and will be completed in December 2022.
