City council confirms reorganisation of business development
At its meeting today, the Chemnitz City Council confirmed the planned reorganisation of economic development in Chemnitz.
This means that the previous area of responsibility of the Chemnitz Economic Promotion and Development Company (CWE) will be transferred to the Mayor's Economic Division.
In future, the Business Division will manage all business promotion and development activities of the City of Chemnitz in the interests of the city as a whole.
The tasks of the Business Division include
- Business services for all Chemnitz companies
- Location management/relocations
- Commercial property management
- Financing/subsidies
- City centre management
- Skilled labour management/labour market/education
- Economic monitoring and business communication
- Regional and international networking
The business division is the point of contact, guide, mediator and realiser for all enquiries, settlement requests and problems of existing and potential future economic players in and for Chemnitz and offers its services from a single source.
A strong and efficient business development organisation is the basis for the further development of Chemnitz as a city of industry and technology. The City of Chemnitz is interlinking business development directly with the administration in order to make processes even faster and more transparent.
In future, a total of nine employees will work in the business division. Four employees will transfer from the CWE to the business division. They will be joined by two former employees from the Business and Digitalisation department. Three other positions that were previously vacant at CWE will be filled directly in the city administration.
The future CWE will focus its expertise and strengths on the areas of tourism promotion, destination development and city marketing. It will also be responsible for implementing specific projects for the city as a whole. The new company will remain the central point of contact for all areas of city marketing.
With the so-called "soft factors", it will noticeably enhance the image and attractiveness of the city of Chemnitz in the short and medium term and thus sustainably strengthen the objectives of the economic strategy.
As the strategic framework setter, the business division will define the focal points and topics, while CWE will act as an implementer and flexible service provider. This will result in even closer cooperation between the city administration and the newly organised CWE.
With the transfer of tasks and employees from 1 July 2022, the structures described will be implemented in the second half of the year.
A working group consisting of members of the City Council, the Economic Advisory Board, the Supervisory Board and the CWE workforce, represented by the Works Council, was involved in the reorganisation process.
