City Council confirms list of proposals for the election of lay judges for criminal jurisdiction for the 2014 to 2018 financial years
The term of office of the lay judges currently serving in the criminal jurisdiction at the local and regional courts ends on 31 December 2013. A new election of lay judges is therefore necessary for the new term of office from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2018. The list of candidates drawn up by the City of Chemnitz with a total of 676 candidates was confirmed by the City Council at its meeting yesterday with the approval of draft resolution B-130/2013.
The list of candidates will be made available for inspection by the public for one week. The start and end of the public display will be announced in good time in the official gazette. After expiry of the public display period, a reasoned objection may be raised against candidates within one week.
Finally, an election committee at Chemnitz District Court - consisting of a judge, an administrative official representing the mayor and seven confidential counsellors - selects the number of lay judges, deputy lay judges and assistant lay judges required for the next term of office from the list of candidates submitted.
The seven confidential counsellors were also appointed from the Chemnitz City Council yesterday with the resolution on submission B-129/2013.
