City Council confirms continuation of the cooperation agreement with Chemnitz University of Technology
The existing cooperation agreement between the city and Chemnitz University of Technology will be reaffirmed and further developed. This was decided unanimously by the city council today. The Rector of Chemnitz University of Technology, Prof. Arnold van Zyl, emphasised the value of the cooperation for the sustainable development of the city: "We are a driving force and knowledge partner for value creation in all areas," said the Rector, "and the agreement provides a suitable framework for this."
The aim of the partnership with Chemnitz University of Technology is to strengthen the Chemnitz location in the areas of education and science, business, urban development, culture and sport with joint impetus. "The city and Chemnitz University of Technology benefit from the cooperation - it's very good for the city," says Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig. "Because the university is a driving force for networks, the partnership will further strengthen Chemnitz as a business location and provide impetus."
As part of the "The city is me" communication campaign, the city and university want to work together even more closely with the aim of attracting young people to the city as a place to live, study and work. Examples of good cooperation can also already be seen in urban development, for example at Brühl or at the Smart Systems Campus or in the establishment of the Centre for Teacher Training. One outstanding cooperation project for the sustainable development of the city is the Morgenstadt initiative together with the Fraunhofer Institutes, which is currently in the start-up phase.
In the years since 2007, a wealth of small and large building blocks of cooperation have been created for the city, all of which are documented in a catalogue of measures that is constantly being updated and forms part of the cooperation agreement.
The update of the agreement will be signed by the Lord Mayor and Rector on 7 March as part of the Chemnitz University of Technology's spring gala.
