City council approves theatre compromise
City increases its subsidy for the theatre significantly once again
Following an extensive debate, the majority of Chemnitz City Council confirmed the concept for Städtische Theater Chemnitz gGmbH this evening.
Based on the concept for the future organisation of the theatre presented by General Director Dr Christoph Dittrich last September and following the wage negotiations with the trade unions involved, the city will increase its subsidy to the five-sector theatre over the next few years from 25.3 million euros to around 26.9 million euros in 2018. In total, this is around €1.4 million more over the entire period than the originally proposed subsidy increase. This will secure the five-division theatre in its entirety and the status of the Philharmonie as an A-list orchestra.
The grants for the coming years in detail:
2014: 26.1 million euros
2015: 26.3 million euros
2016: 26.7 million euros
2017: 26.7 million euros
2018: 26.9 million euros
The further subsidy increases are the result of pay rises for employees totalling 2.5 per cent in 2016 and 2018. Depending on the division, employees will forgo up to ten per cent of their salary during this period. The planned job reductions in line with the general director's concept, which was confirmed by the city council last year, will be realised through age-related retirements and natural fluctuation, among other things. Dismissals for operational reasons are ruled out for the duration of the five-year programme.
