City council approves new redevelopment area
At its meeting today, the city council passed the corresponding resolution on the assessment and statute for the "Zwickauer Straße" redevelopment area. This primarily includes the report on the preparatory study, which serves as a sufficient assessment document with regard to urban development deficiencies and the possibility and necessity of an urban redevelopment measure to solve urban development problems in the area.
Stakeholders and public authorities were involved in a multi-stage process.
The city council examined the comments received and suggestions made. Among other things, suggestions from the Chemnitz Region Planning Association for the compensation of sealed surfaces, the Chemnitzer Verkehrs-AG for the area of the tram turning loop and a statement from the Chemnitz Mitte-West citizens' platform on 30 km/h zones in dense residential areas were included.
The redevelopment area covers an area of around 68 hectares and includes the tram depot, the Wanderer neighbourhood and the Braustolz site as well as the green corridor of the Kappelbach from Michaelstrasse to Popowstrasse. The redevelopment is intended to help redesign and revitalise the area as a functional and contemporary residential, working and business area with high urban development quality and to further develop its function as an entrance area to the city centre.
