At its meeting today, the city council approved the construction of a second artificial turf pitch at the Sportforum. The facility, which is equipped with floodlights and is to be built at the athletics hall in place of the hard pitch, will cost a total of 1.72 million euros (gross) and will be financed entirely from the City of Chemnitz's own funds.
It is a large football pitch with a linear dimension of 90 by 45 metres. An approximately 70 metre long retaining wall has to be built for the pitch. Ball catching nets with a height of 6 metres are planned on the western long side and behind the goals.
The construction work is scheduled to be completed between the beginning of May and the end of November 2025.
