City council approves further construction phase for municipal economy
At its meeting today, the city council approved the low-threshold refurbishment of House B of the future Kreativhof Stadtwirtschaft.
House B is an elongated brick building with wooden beam ceilings and a timber-framed construction above the ground floor. The refurbishment is intended to make the building less invasive and with the least possible effort so that all areas can be used and rented out as workspaces for the creative industries. For example, no new insulation materials will be installed, but the thermal insulation will be limited to the components that need to be replaced, such as the roof, external doors and windows.
With large doors and ground-level access from the courtyard, the ground floor will provide space for craftspeople and creative professionals. Rooms for workshops, creative production, storage space, external tenants and more are planned there. On the upper floor, ancillary rooms, an open-plan studio and several individual studios and offices will be created via an internal corridor. The construction of a new external staircase will provide the necessary second escape route.
The costs for this low-threshold refurbishment will total around 1.95 million euros in 2023 and 2024, of which more than 1.5 million euros will be covered by federal, state and EU urban development funds. Construction is scheduled to run from October 2023 to December 2024.
The Kreativhof Stadtwirtschaft is an intervention area for the city of Chemnitz as European Capital of Culture 2025.
