City council adopts winter road clearance concept
At its meeting today, the City Council adopted the City of Chemnitz's winter road maintenance concept with its extensive annexes on the street directory, maintenance matrix and emergency plan. It fulfils the statutory and legal standards to be provided by the city and also implements a high level of public service.
In accordance with the adopted concept, the public transport lines are prioritised. The morning rush hour is covered by an upstream night shift in addition to the early shift starting at 3 am.
As in previous years, the carriageways of public roads in the city of Chemnitz have been categorised into service levels 1 to 4. In accordance with the concept, the winter road maintenance service operates 24 hours a day on level 1 carriageways. This includes the carriageways of federal, state and district roads within the city limits, carriageways used by local public transport bus services, main collector roads and main access roads as well as carriageways leading to fire stations, hospitals and important utilities and commercial sites. Level 2 carriageways are cleared of snow and ice for 16 hours a day.
The winter service concept will apply continuously for the first time this year. Should changes become necessary, a draft amendment will be submitted to the city council.
