City Council adopts waste management concept for the city of Chemnitz for the period 2021 to 2025
At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council adopted the waste management concept (AWK) for the years 2021 to 2025.
As a public waste management authority, the City of Chemnitz is legally obliged to draw up a municipal waste management concept on the avoidance, recovery, in particular in preparation for reuse and recycling, as well as the disposal of the waste generated in its area of responsibility and disposed of in accordance with the Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management Act.The waste management concept must be updated every five years at the latest. In order to ensure that municipal waste disposal is continued and further developed, the waste management concept is now being updated for the years 2021 to 2025.
The City of Chemnitz is a member of the Chemnitz Waste Management Association (AWVC). As a public waste management organisation, the AWVC is responsible for the recycling and disposal of the waste handed over to it in accordance with the Saxon Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management and Soil Protection Act. The members of the association are responsible for collecting and transporting the waste provided to the AWVC's RABA/transfer station.
The city has transferred the organisation of public waste disposal in the city to its own company, the Abfallentsorgungs- und Stadtreinigungsbetrieb der Stadt Chemnitz (ASR). The scope, type and manner of waste disposal as well as the corresponding fees are regulated in the statutes of the City of Chemnitz on the avoidance, utilisation and disposal of waste (waste statutes) as well as in the statutes of the City of Chemnitz on the levying of fees for waste disposal (waste fee statutes).
