City Council adopts the current winter road clearance concept for Chemnitz

At its meeting today, the City Council approved the City of Chemnitz's current winter service concept for the coming season. As in previous years, the carriageways of public roads will be categorised into maintenance levels 1 to 4. In accordance with the concept, the winter road clearance service will be deployed 24 hours a day on level 1 carriageways. This includes the carriageways of federal, state and district roads within the city limits, carriageways used by local public transport bus services, main collector roads and main access roads as well as carriageways leading to fire stations, hospitals and important utilities and commercial sites. Level 2 carriageways are cleared of snow and ice for 16 hours a day. In accordance with the concept, the carriageways of levels 3 and 4 are maintained downstream of levels 1 and 2 as part of the voluntary tasks.

The 17 large snow clearing vehicles including reserve vehicles of the Chemnitz winter road clearance service for 15 route plans were serviced as scheduled. More than half of them are ready for use in the ASR's vehicle halls. Swap-body vehicles, which are currently still in use as road sweepers, are converted within a very short time when winter sets in. The ASR currently has 5,600 tonnes of road salt in storage.
