City Council adopts the current winter road clearance concept for Chemnitz

The City Council today approved the City of Chemnitz's current winter road maintenance concept for the coming season (B-160/2015). As in previous years, the carriageways of public roads are categorised into maintenance levels 1 to 4. In accordance with the concept, the winter road maintenance service will be deployed 24 hours a day on the most important level 1 carriageways. Snow and ice is cleared from level 2 carriageways that are important for traffic for 16 hours a day. These two levels include the carriageways of federal, state and district roads within the city limits, carriageways used by local public transport bus services, main collector roads and main access roads, carriageways leading to fire stations, hospitals and important utilities and industrial estates. In accordance with the concept, the carriageways of levels 3 and 4 are managed downstream of levels 1 and 2 as part of the voluntary tasks within the scope of the given capacity.

The 15 road clearance vehicles of the Chemnitz winter road clearance service were serviced as planned. More than half of them are already ready for use in the ASR's vehicle halls. The rest are still doing their job cleaning roads and gullies or disposing of property drainage systems and will be refitted as soon as winter sets in.

6,300 tonnes of salt and 120 tonnes of lye as well as 300 tonnes of grit are stored at the ASR.
