At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council approved the new schedule of charges for the use of Chemnitz City Library. It will come into force on 1 November 2026.
Under the new regulations, fees for selected services will be adjusted. For example, the annual fee for adults will rise by 2 euros to 25 euros per year. The reduced annual fee – applicable, for example, to school pupils of legal age, apprentices and students up to the age of 27, those undertaking the Federal Voluntary Service, people with severe disabilities holding a valid disability card, and holders of the Chemnitz Pass, will rise by 1 euro to 12.50 euros.
A new ‘Premium’ package is being introduced, which will cost a one-off annual fee of 50 euros, or 47 euros with a subscription contract. This includes the City Library’s annual fee, the combined ticket for the Museum of Natural History, the bestseller service, orders and reservations from the City Library’s collection. For users, this represents a financial saving compared with the individual services; for the City Library, it reduces the administrative workload.
Library tours and educational seminars designed to teach information and media literacy will remain free of charge. Separate admission fees apply to events and author readings.
The adjustments take into account the rise in staff and operating costs since 2023, as well as higher prices for media procurement. The new fees make a small contribution towards offsetting these cost increases. The City of Chemnitz expects additional annual revenue of around 49,300 euros. The next review of the fees regulations is scheduled for 2029 and is to be linked to the update of the Library Development Plan 2030.
